Sara Legrand


Sara Legrand, Ph.D. (she/her/hers) is an Associate Research Professor at the Duke Global Health Institute and CHPIR. Dr. LeGrand has conducted health disparities research for over a decade and has had a strong focus on reducing HIV and mental health disparities among adolescent and young adult sexual and gender minorities (SGMs) in the Southern U.S. and the Global South. 

Kathryn Whetten


Kathryn Whetten, Ph.D. (they/them/theirs) is the director of CHPIR and a Professor of Public Policy and Global Health, with additional appointments in Community and Family Medicine and Nursing. Their research focuses on health disparity issues among vulnerable populations, including people living with HIV in the South and sexual and gender minorities (SGMs) in low- and middle- income country (LMIC) contexts.
