Dr. Leigh Spivey-Rita (she/her) is a clinical associate in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke. She earned her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2020 and completed her pre-doctoral clinical internship at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Spivey-Rita's primary research and clinical interests are focused on gender-affirming mental health care for gender diverse youth. Her research has examined sexual and gender minority youths' family and peer relationships, psychosocial functioning, and risk for suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Currently, Dr. Spivey-Rita provides outpatient individual and family therapy for gender-diverse youth and their families in close collaboration with the Duke Child and Adolescent Gender Care Clinic.
