Information pertaining to the number of SGM Peruvian citizens is difficult to find. Homosexuality is still very stigmatized in the Peruvian culture, which is deeply rooted in religion. There has been backlash from the church when change is called for, even by public officials. Due to this discriminatory climate, there are not many empirical studies on SGM populations in Peru.
