There are no nationwide estimates of SGM population of Maldives. The Penal Code of the Maldives criminalizes homosexuality in several ways, making efforts to estimate the SGM population very difficult and limited.However, a 2010 report conducted by the World Health Organization estimates that the population of men who have sex with men in Maldives is between 1600 and 4200 (WHO SEARO, 2010).This may provide an insight on one aspect of SGM. Unfortunately, there is very little information surrounding population estimates of other SGM individuals.
