Though same-sex acts are not outright criminalized, other laws against prostitution, debauchery and “online content that threatens society’s and family’s values” have been used to imprison gay men; such has occurred 92 times in the past year (RightsAfrica, 2020). This, compounded by the fact that only 3% of the population says that homosexuality should be accepted by society (Pew Research Center, 2013) renders the climate extraordinarily hostile to SGM populations and SGM research.
