Comoros

There is very little available data on the SGM population in Comoros. There are currently no reported national SGM organizations. The only available data on SGM relates to HIV and measured the proportion of condom use. 54% of men reported using a condom the last time they had sex with a male partner (WHO, 2017). Sexual orientation is not commonly revealed due to fears of community rejection, discrimination, and the criminalization of consensual same-sex acts (U.S. Department of State, 2013). Comoros has a unit of the police force focused on preventing“morality crimes” which targets the SGM population (ILGAWorld Report, 2019). Comoros has twice rejected recommendations by the United Nations Universal Periodic Review to decriminalize consensual same-sex acts (United Nations, 2013).
