Statistical records on sexual and gender minority populations in Chad are relatively nonexistent. A report on state-sponsored homophobia found there to be no active LGBTQIA+ organizations in the country, which may limit the availability of supportive non-governmental actors with which to conduct research alongside (ILGA, 2019). Chad is one central African nation which has, as of 2017, rolled back protections for same-sex marriage by prosecuting behaviors under the nation’s revised penal code on account of public indecency(ILGA, 2019). Accurate data on this marginalized community is needed going forward, as empirical studies on sexual and gender minority research is particularly constrained in this region, likely due to the recent same-sex criminalization policy: Penal Code Article 354 (ILGA, 2019).
