Homosexuality is illegal for both males and females in Algeria. There is also censorship of any publication that may encourage homosexual activity (ALMERA International, Algeria LGBTI Resources), which explains why there are few nationwide statistics on SGM demographics. According to a study conducted by BBC World News (2019) 26% of Algerians consider homosexuality acceptable. Despite Societal and Legal sanctions there is a small but active LGBT community with organizations, publications and an online presence.(Human Rights Campaign Foundation, 2012).
